Create...a better home

As you all by now, we just put our house on the market. It's been a while coming. My husband started his new job back in December, right after Christmas. After weeks of cleaning, decluttering and rearranging, my house is ready and on the market. This has been a LOT of work.

Now my house is really clean and I have to keep it that way. Which means cleaning--multiple times a day cleaning.

I am not by nature a cleaner. I hate housework. I tend to put it off until it seems like such a daunting task that I put it off even longer. Then I get truly disgusted with myself and the state of my house and I clean.

I generally have a lot of clutter in my house and I generally only do the absolutely necessary cleaning.

In the last few weeks, I have totally decluttered and I have cleaned surfaces in my house that I hadn't touched in the over 2 and a half years we've lived here.

I thought by now I would be totally done with cleaning, burned out from it all. And at times, I have definitely felt that way.

But, surprisingly, the opposite is true. The more I clean, the more motivated I am to clean some more. I like having a clean house.

Now that my house is both decluttered and deep cleaned, it is easier to keep it clean. It is less daunting and more rewarding.

I may have discovered the secret to keeping my house clean. A little cleaning off and on each day and the whole thing seems easier---and much cleaner.

Who knew? I am on my way to creating a cleaner home for my family. And although I don't think "cleaner" equals "better," I do think it is a good start. I don't want my children to grow up thinking that cleanliness is not important. I feel good about this path I am on. I am creating a better home for my family and I like that.

Funny --- that "once I start cleaning, I want to clean more" thing has never struck me. Ever.

Hey Haley! Best of luck selling your house. I'm also trying to get more organized and clean, I've been reading the blog over on unclutter.com and there's some helpful tips there.
I even bought their book for my Kindle, but I think most of it can be found on the website too.

Congratulations! I was a total slob growing up. Somewhere along the way, I became almost a neat freak. I love having a clean house. I don't love cleaning, but it is so much easier to keep something clean than it is to clean something dirty. The more often you clean, the less time it takes, and the more time you get to spend in a clean house!

As dirty as the house can get, even with just one kid and a dog, I really do feel I feel so much better after cleaning day! Am finally going through our house after living here 7 years to purge stuff we've been collecting over the years. We'll see, but it feels good even to start.
